Byron Somerset School
An elementary - and elemental - school in London Ontario by predecessor firm Lamb, Jorden and Jensen (Carsten Jensen partner in charge). It consists of a permanent core containing a gymnasium, auditorium, resource centre, circulation, daycare centre, washrooms, etc. and 19 modular prefabricated classrooms which can be plugged in or out as circumstances dictate. The classrooms are built to a standard that makes it difficult to distinguish between the permanent, conventional parts of the school and the plug and play elements. The students refer to the building as the Lego School, which we interpret as a validation of the systems theme inherent in the design.
